We are always looking for dedicated volunteers to help us preserve history,
engage the community, and expand our programs.

Volunteering with our museum is like a “Choose your own Adventure” novel:
You can decide which department you’d like to assist with, what skills you’d like to learn, and how much or how often you’d like to be involved!

Our current volunteer opportunities include: 

1. Programs and Events

    • Special Events: Join our pool of event volunteers to help with logistics at our feature events, such as “Music on the Wharf” and our upcoming “Hands Up!” theatrical experience. Duties include assisting with set up, take down, check in, and customer service. Required hours are typically 4 hour shifts per event date.
    • Museum in the Park: Be one of the first volunteers involved in our new pilot program where we set up a tent outside of the museum on Saturdays & Sundays throughout the summer. Interact with community members while sharing some museum information and fun historical learning! Time commitment is 11am to 3pm for each day you’d like to be involved, plus approximately one hour of general orientation.
    • Program development: Do you have an educational background? Do you get really excited about Maple Ridge history? Do you love to work with children and youth? Then, you might be perfect for our new program development committee. This group of like-minded individuals will meet once a month throughout the year to work with our Museum Programmer in developing new community outreach and educational programs for 2022 and beyond.

2. Research & Archival

    • Archives Assistant: Assist with digitizing, transcribing, and researching our extensive archives. Specific archival projects include digitizing newspapers (past and present); digitizing microfilm of a historic Maple Ridge newspaper (at the Maple Ridge library); transcribing handwritten records (must be able to read cursive).
      2-4 hours a week; typically on Monday or Tuesday afternoons.

3. Collections & Exhibits

    • Collections Assistant: Assist the curator in collections management of our extensive and exciting object collection. Specific projects with the collection include researching items which will be used in future exhibits; photographing collection objects for use in online exhibits (knowledge in photography is suggested & photographer will retain credit in publications and online usage).  Training will include a private lesson with the curator in proper artifact handling techniques.  2-4 hours a week; typically on weekday afternoons.

4. Visitor Services

    • Gallery Attendant: Assist our museum staff with visitor services on our open days.  The museum is open Wednesdays thru Sundays from 10am to 4pm.  If you are interested in giving tours and chatting with people about the history of Maple Ridge, then this role is for you! Currently, we are looking for assistance at the Maple Ridge Museum, but reopening the Haney House next summer will be dependent on volunteer support. You will receive training in visitor services and offering museum tours.  4 hour shifts, on any open day that you are available.

5. Other

    • Do you have a special skill that might benefit our museum and community archives? If so, we’d love to hear from you! We are open to individually designed and self-driven projects!

Interested in joining our team? Follow the steps below to get started!

  1. Complete the volunteer registration form on Google Forms, located here(Please allow yourselves 15 minutes to complete the requested information). Upon completion, this form will be sent to our volunteer coordinator who will be in touch within 7-10 days of receiving your application. 
  2. If you are a youth volunteer, 18 years or younger, please have a parent or guardian download this consent letter. Page 2 should be completed by your parent/guardian and it can be scanned & emailed to mrmeventplanner@gmail.com or brought with you to our first meeting.
